Target Audience Analysis
The target audience to watch my opening title sequence, are the people who enjoy comedies "Napoleon Dynamite" , Musical dramas such as "Almost Famous" people who enjoy music from the 60's and 70's as I will be providing visual clues from that era, to attract that audiences.
The demographic of my audience are people between the ages of 30-65 years of age who have enjoyed music of that era, and who the imagery would be most relevant to, it will attract people in a working class residence, however suited for all.
The audience rage is mixed, however it might attract more females then males, as some of the content includes scenes which women might find more interesting then men, overall it’s pretty balanced between both genders.
I don’t want to create a piece just for one type of audience, however make things more diverse so that other cultures can relate, this is why I am filming in London as it is a multi-cultural location.
Their expectations will be to see a generic style of a musical drama, of a person in a messy room full of odd things, they have wealth but we never find out where it comes from; however I am going down an alternative route, although the area will be cluttered with odd bits, there are really no actors in my opening sequence. All the titles will be written on by hand, instead of in the edit.
I will target and meet the expectations of the audience, by making the title clear and easy to understand, filming and using the Mise en Scene in a realistic way making the environment look cosy and homely, so the audience can relate.
This is a graph cataloguing data of how many people watch and rate the movie Almost Famous and the demographic of those viewers, from the film I choose the film as I am most inspired by it for my title sequence.
Katz E's theory of the gratifications model, is related to how I can direct people to watch my film, it depicts how people consume forms of media/text in contrasting ways, to attain different pleasures, as people or certain social groups, receive contrasting gratifications from similar, or the same films and programmers i.e preferring certain genre's. The theory underlines the idea of how a person uses media than how the media uses them. I was able to uncover this from challenging the prior research I had completed in my preliminary task and case studies, which without carrying out would not help me reach this conclusion.
